LIFE IN MEDIEVAL LANDSCAPES
The society is pleased to announce, even if this is tinged with a degree of sadness, the publication of Life in Medieval Landscapes. Papers in Memory of H. S. A. Fox.
Harold Fox was the chairman of our society at the time of his death in August 2007. He had retired only a month before from the University of Leicester, where he had held a personal chair in the Centre for English Local History, and was finalising his magnum opus on medieval transhumance on Dartmoor.
It was a mark of the esteem in which he was held that no less than five conferences were organised in his memory in 2008, three in Devon and two in Leicester. From these various speakers were invited to contribute to a memorial volume, and the society has collaborated with the Medieval Settlement Research Group, with which Harold was also closely associated, and the Windgather Press (an imprint of Oxbow Books) to produce Life in Medieval Landscapes. The publisher’s blurb is reproduced here to provide an idea of the contents.
The book can be purchased directly from Oxbow Books in Oxford or through Amazon. |
